You’re excited and ready to start using CBD! You’ve found your recommended dosage amount via our dosage guide, but what about CBD timing?
When is the best time to take CBD? Does it matter if you take in the mornings vs. nights? How many times a day is optimal? The answer really depends on what you’re looking to get from CBD.
Should I Use CBD In The Mornings or Nights?
The effects of CBD depends on how much you take.
If you’re a newcomer to CBD, you might be concerned that CBD will make you too sleepy for daytime use.
However, smaller doses of CBD can actually be energizing and help to clear your mind from stress while also providing some pain relief. On the other end, it’s larger doses of CBD that tend to have that physically relaxing effect in addition to greater pain relief.
This dual nature of CBD means you don’t have to choose between just the mornings or the evenings to take CBD. You can reap both the energizing and calming benefits of CBD by varying your dosage amount.
For instance, you can kickstart your mornings by having a smaller shot of CBD oil in your coffee (or a smaller bite of CBD Gummies) to help boost your mental clarity, energy and mood. Then, when it’s time to relax you can take larger dose of CBD in the evenings to help soothe your aches and pains, and get you ready for bed.
How Do I Find My Morning vs. Nighttime Dose?
To find your optimal dose, it just requires a little testing – though you can certainly refer to our Dosage Chart for a recommended starting point based on your weight and sympytoms.
If you’ve never taken CBD before, an easy way to start is to take 0.5mL of oil if your symptoms are mild, or 1mL if they are severe. If you’re having gummies then one gummy candy may be a good place to start. If you’re using a CBD Topical you can just apply a moderate amount to the target area.
After you’ve taken the CBD, wait about 15-20 minutes and evaluate how you feel. If you’re feeling too relaxed and want more of an energizing effect then you can try taking 1/2 or even 1/4 of the previous dosage you took.
If you’re looking for more of a relaxing and sleep-inducing effect, then try increasing your dosage until you reach your desired effect.
With a little testing, you’ll have found the perfect dose to take in the mornings and the perfect one for the evenings.
How Many Times Should I Take CBD?
If you’re looking for constant relief throughout the day, we recommend taking at least 2-3 dosages throughout the day. This is because the effects of CBD generally last 3-4 hours.
If you are simply looking for help with sleep, taking one big dose in the evenings before bed may be sufficient for help with getting to sleep and having a more restful sleep.
If you find that you are not responding to CBD or have severe symptoms, taking more doses throughout the day can help to saturate your overall levels of CBD and improve your overall response – especially if you’re having trouble sleeping.
If you’re worried about taking too much CBD, you don’t have to worry too much as CBD is quite safe even in higher dosages.
In fact, both a 2011 study and a 2017 study found that daily doses of 1,500mg (an entire bottle of high strength CBD) was fine in patients and led to no negative health effects. So taking several doses of CBD daily should be safe so long as you’re reasonable.
